Sailing Journal Day 7 (March 26th)

Today was the craziest day of my entire life. We woke up in a nice calm cove and we started sailing towards New London, CT. The wind started blowing pretty hard so we decided to drop the Jib sail we had up and put on a smaller one to catch a little less wind.

One of the halliards got pulled up the mast so Evan had to get hoisted up the mast to get it. wind was ripping. The small jib was better and we thought we were all set. We sailed all the way to Fisher Island/New London and shit started getting scary.

The wind started blowing near gale winds.. 30+ mph and the waves got scary big. The wind was blowing so hard it was shredding our main sail. We were getting blown around like a toy .I was able to get a quick video just before we had to try and drop the sails. Dylan was trying to steer us with the engine , Evan was up on the bow trying to get down the jib sail. The waves were big and the bow was getting dunked under water. Evan was getting dunked up to his waste trying to hold on for his life. I was clung to the mast trying to drop the main sail.

We got the sails down and were able to motor in behind some rocks to block the wind. We got a little closer to shore and threw out the anchor for the night. We spent the next 3-4 hours in the cabin trying to sew canvas to the rips in the main sail.

We worked so well under pressure. I'm happy to be with Evan and dylan
