Trying to get home from California

What a crazy journey my last day in California was. But, sometimes things go wrong and you are forced to deal with situations that you weren't planning on. Yesterday was one of those days.
I packed my bags and headed to the beach to watch a nice sunset before my bus ride at 9:30PM. Life is good.

The bus ride from Santa Cruz to San Jose was perfect. Full of interesting people to watch and it took less time than i was expecting. When i got to the Cal train station, I tried to buy a ticket for the train from the ticket machine, but the words "No Bills" were on the screen. My options were $7.00 in change or a credit card. I had neither so i decided to take my cash and buy a ticket on the train. When the train conductor came around to check tickets, I said "I tried to buy a ticket from the machine, but it wouldn't take cash. Can I buy one from you?" and he replied with "If you don't have a ticket you need to get off the train." Sure enough, when the train got to the next station, he threw me off. It would have been no big deal if there was another train I could catch, but that was the last train of the night, and my only way to get to the airport. So instead, I found myself sitting on a bench in a random town at 3 AM. with my flight leaving in 3 hours.

No one likes calling their friends to bail them out of a sticky situation. Obviously, I would rather figure it out myself and be on my way, but sometimes things are just of out your hands and you gotta do what you gotta do. And I am so thankful to have friends that are willing to go out of their way to help someone out. And I am also lucky to have friends that are still awake at 3 in the morning. In a few hours, my friends Jeff and Kayla were pulling up in a car while i was passed out on my luggage on the sidewalk. They picked me up and drove me to the airport. (part of me wishes i missed my flight and just drove back to Santa Cruz with them). I guess the upside to all of it, was that I got no sleep all night so i slept almost the entire flight back to Boston.

Thank you to all of my friends. You guys are the best.

And, when i got home, I got to hang out with Jake in the deepest subway in the world.

New England.

  1. Obviously, you like adventures. I am on one of my own working on wind turbines in the middle of freaking nowhere Oklahoma. Check it out if you want. Cheers, glad you made it back to Boston. Go Red Sox.
